Moving Day Means Print Artists Have New Space

We’ve had an exciting time preparing to move the etching/print press to the Studio Gallery from its former home above the Country Store. For three years the studios were located there, but just about a year ago the decision was made to ”bring the Studios home to the Gallery.”

If you’ve visited us in Thomas, you will agree that it is a beautiful building with an amazing history. (Built in 1900, it served as the company store for the Davis Coke & Coal Company for more than 50 years. It’s had a few other lives as well and we are honored to have been at home here for 10 years).

Dolly Sods

MountainMade promotes West Virginia arts and crafts from its location in the rich, natural beauty of the West Virginia Potomac Highlands. Visitors travel to our region to experience the year-round outdoor recreation surrounded by the Monongahela National Forest and near Dolly Sods and Canaan Valley.

We appreciate and work to protect our environment. Our Thomas locations are in two historical structures that have been restored and/or renovated. Adaptive reuse of buildings saves the environmental costs of tearing old buildings down and disposing of the waste in a landfill. It also saves on the environmental costs of creating products for construction.

The Historic Buxton and Landstreet Building house MountainMade's Fine Art Gallery and Studio Art Classes

The MountainMade Fine Art Gallery and Studio Art Classes are housed by the historic Buxton and Landstreet Building of Thomas, WV. Placing our MountainMade’s Artisan Gallery in this building brings the Buxton & Landstreet Building back to its mercantile roots and provides an ideal display setting for fine art.

Constructed in 1901, Buxton & Landstreet Building served as company store for the Davis Coal and Coke Company. Company employees were paid in script, which they spent in the company store.* Today, the MountainMade Gallery prefers you pay for fine art in legitimate US currency, but we may be willing to bargain.
