Moving Day At MountainMade!

posted: 36 month ago by Becky Henderson  |  No Comments ;

The MountainMade Country Store has been consolidated with the Artisan Gallery in Thomas. Now you’ll have one-stop shopping in Thomas for everything including books, food products, toys, fine art glass and lots more. The Pottery Studio will also be moving to the Gallery location.

The MountainMade staff spent the week boxing, wrapping, loading and unloading hundreds of West Virginia made arts and crafts. We are pleased to report that nothing was broken.

The Gallery is now ready for summer and overflowing with great gifts for all occasions – we’re sure you’ll be able to find the perfect gift for someone special or even for yourself.

The MountainMade Artisan Gallery is located on Douglas Road. After you pass the U.S. Post Office, take a right onto Douglas Road at the MountainMade sign. The Artisan Gallery is three-quarters of a mile farther along the road.

Moving Day Means Print Artists Have New Space

We’ve had an exciting time preparing to move the etching/print press to the Studio Gallery from its former home above the Country Store. For three years the studios were located there, but just about a year ago the decision was made to ”bring the Studios home to the Gallery.”

If you’ve visited us in Thomas, you will agree that it is a beautiful building with an amazing history. (Built in 1900, it served as the company store for the Davis Coke & Coal Company for more than 50 years. It’s had a few other lives as well and we are honored to have been at home here for 10 years).

Dolly Sods

MountainMade promotes West Virginia arts and crafts from its location in the rich, natural beauty of the West Virginia Potomac Highlands. Visitors travel to our region to experience the year-round outdoor recreation surrounded by the Monongahela National Forest and near Dolly Sods and Canaan Valley.

We appreciate and work to protect our environment. Our Thomas locations are in two historical structures that have been restored and/or renovated. Adaptive reuse of buildings saves the environmental costs of tearing old buildings down and disposing of the waste in a landfill. It also saves on the environmental costs of creating products for construction.

Heidi Visits Treenware

I may never be let out of the Gallery/Studio again. I had the privilege to visit Stan and Sue Jennings of Allegheny Treenware on my way back to Thomas after spending the day in Morgantown. This is funny only because my vintage 1993 Subaru Impreza was smoking when I pulled up to the workshop to pick up an order.

There are many reasons to submit your art to the MountainMade Jury process. Professional feedback, marketing resources, and being represented by a well-respected artist organization are just a few of the ways you will benefit from applying to be a MountainMade artist.

At MountainMade, we believe our artist jury process sets us apart from other organizations. Our customers and our artists benefit from the artist jury process. MountainMade shoppers know they are getting very high quality, well made art from an organization that cares for its artists, and our artists receive valuable feedback and marketing resources.

MountainMade is gearing up for the first of 3 Jury Session in 2010. We will be working with our artist jurors on Monday, March 22, 2010 to review the works artists have submitted so far this year. We understand that submitting art to the MountainMade jury process is an emotional experience, but we also believe is personally and professional rewarding. That is why we commit the day to review and remark on the pieces submitted, making an effort to provide honest, insightful, and useful feedback to all participating artists. Read All
